Battlefield
02:28
|
|||
blood is racing
bones are shaking
the clouds are exploding
my mind is freezing
battlefield – I’m there again
falling down – so cold again
for my eyes – I’m there again
falling down again
coming home to a battlefield
saying hello, how are you, what’s new (it’s a battlefield)
saying not much, can’t complain, how ‘bout you (it’s a battlefield)
how’s the sleep, health, wife, sex? (it’s a battlefield)
how’s the guilt, shame, rage, fear? (it’s a battlefield)

you’ve got a way with a crowd
over flags and banners high
words ringing strong
you’ve got a way for the cause
you’ve fought for so long
now I want to stand on the ground beside you
teach me to stand without fear
once I marched so proud
now I sway with doubt
help me to open up wide
I’ve been closed for so long
now I want to share before I break away
before I blush and turn deep inside

Lighthouse

|

morning grey
throw off that shroud
take on the day
news from the nest
a pale, true shimmering
of affirmation
through the clouds
through the rain
in the distance
off the shore stands
a tower for generations
our greatest quest
a faint cry in paradise
eternally

New Truths
05:06
|
|
||
once upon a traffic light
waiting on a red
she turned her eyes on him
with a sigh she said
“these model homes,
these shopping malls,
we need something new”
he said “this I know”
the light turned go
and off they flew
new truths come every day
fast and hard
old truths are gone
(some are hard
some get you far)
signed a lease on a downtown room
and just couldn’t sit still
and they rode that thundering train
looking for some thrills
those sweaty night in pulsating clubs
were a perfect fit
nowhere in that small town ghetto
could they scratch that itch
new truths blooms
in smoky rooms
in swaying cars
in noisy bars
in dark cafes
eyes start to stray
and the laughs don’t come as easy as before
in a city of fast strangers now here’s two more
now they ride home on different trains at different times
only to find new truths

Flood
03:01
|
|||
sweet air
clear blue skies
shiny day
soft breeze is blowing
orange eyelids glowing
how could it have ever been so dark?
green leaves twist and dance
children play
birds sing and hum
warm kiss of sun
how could it have ever been so cold?
blue skies
shiny day
hold back the flood with logic
hold back the flood with language
use progress to hold back the flood
use culture to hold back the flood
violent calculations
on the edge of a fall
all it takes is a empty stare- then the clouds are there
all it takes is a child’s cry- then the rivers rise
all it takes is the smell of smoke- then the levees’ broke
all it takes is a drop of rain- then the dams fall away
slipping - then the flood does come
thrashing- when flood does come
sinking - when the flood does come

Trigger
04:11
|
|||
under the cold bright lights
under the blinding rays of pride
straight shoulders
clear sharp eyes
so fearless
putting innocence on the line
right becomes wrong
when right comes around
heard a sabre, saw a call
stoked the fire and got burned
broken filter, broken lens
staining everything
plastic scopes
for vital stats
tape and tubes
and velcro straps
x-ray films
body screens
all come back
fit and clean
but images of the past
are threatening a full collapse
flashing like an impulse
pumping through a synapse
threatening a full collapse
these open burns cant be cured
these injuries can’t be cleaned
can’t be seen

come on in
peel off your skin
dripping, howling
got a clean cloak
got a warm coat
embracing, erasing
rehabilitating safety in
hanging plants
and fire and oxygen
breathing, healing
easing, soothing
